The Talking God

I am currently listening to the audio version of a book titled “The God whois there” by D a Carson. It’s pitched for people who have never read the bibleas well as those who know it well.

He basically talks you through the entire Bible and openly discusses thebits that make no sense to us in 2022. I studied full time for a year at aBible College in Perth and I still came away baffled by parts of the OldTestament. This writer adds historical context and I can now stop worryingabout the bits of the bible that are just hard work.

One of the main takeaways for me has been this – that God is a talking God.

He begins talking right from the beginning of Genesis “God said, ‘Let therebe light’”

The writer goes on to say - So the God of the Bible in the very firstchapter is not some abstract “unmoved mover,” some spirit impossible to define, some ground of all beings, some mystical experience. He has personality anddares to disclose himself in words that human beings understand. Right throughthe whole Bible, that picture of God constantly recurs. However great ortranscendent he is, he is a talking God

We have already ascertained that I adore words and writing in general. Theconcept that God is a “Taking God” really took my fancy, it paints a picture ofa God who wants to be in relationship with us, He wants us to talk with Him andhe wants to talk back because that is how a conversation and a relationshipworks.

I knew this already on some level but isn’t it lovely when a book answersthe questions you have and then on top of that gives you a new picture at thesame time?

Anyway, I highly recommend it and there are free versions of the book andstudy material available online if you are interested.
