Cannabis

As you know I have sleep issues and they have gotten worse with my diagnosis. I also have to consciously remember to eat because I am just not hungry at all and I can easily go for a whole day without food which is obviously not ideal.

We talked with my GP about trying out cannabis to help with both the sleep and appetite issues and he passed me along to the Cannabis Clinic. I went ahead and booked an appointment and had a five-minute Zoom meeting with a consultant who prescribed me some medication.

All was going well until I got the bill - it cost me $1,000 for some oil, weed and the appointment! The sad thing is that it worked brilliantly but we simply cannot afford to pay that money given we are already down one pay packet.

To add insult to injury the cannabis is not even grown in New Zealand, we import it from Australia!

That has left me with three choices:

1 - Scrap the idea completely
2 - Buy cannabis illegally
3 - Grow my own cannabis illegally

I now understand why the cannabis referendum was so important to many New Zealanders dealing with my kind of issues.  It’s the perfect drug for me right now - it’s not addictive, it makes me hungry and it allows me to sleep for eight or nine hours and I wake up ready to go. Sadly, in order to gain it’s healing affects I have to break the law which does not sit well with me.

On the other hand, I can be legally prescribed drugs that have similar effects but they all seem to come at a cost. The main one being the “hung over” feeling in the mornings or just a foggy brain in general.  I think we can all agree mine is already foggy enough thank you and it does not need company.

In the end I have chosen a path I feel OK about.

Disclaimer: I cannot for the life of me rememer if its affect or effect and so if I got it wrong, apologies!!
