The plan for today was to meet up in Petone where we would have a lovelylong lunch followed by lots of shopping. Not just any kind of shopping mind youit would be the very best kind … op shopping.
Then I woke up with a head cold this morning and I knew I would not be ableto go and play in that sandpit. We talked it over via phone and agreed that itwas the right decision even if it didn’t feel that way. The word that summed uphow I felt was disappointment.
I looked up disappointment in the thesaurus and one of its synonyms was displeasure. That’s exactly the right sentiment - today had the potential for pleasure andnow it has been taken away.
However, it’s a couple of hours later and I have lit a candle, I have a hotwater bottle at my toes and I am watching All Creatures Great and Small on aflat screen in my bedroom. That is a new list of pleasures if ever I saw them!
I have been reading this lovely book which asks people of all walks of lifewhat one piece of advice they would give to others. One of the oldest ladiessaid that she would tell people to let go of stuff quicker. She was angry at afamily member for years and cannot even remember why. She wished she had let goof whatever it was she was angry about so that she could have more time withher family member.
Today I am embracing that - bring on more pleasure please!
