I have finally become a multi tasker – I start one thing, get half way through and then I get distracted. Then I look at my iPad and see something I have written and have to spend five minutes thinking about what I was doing before I was interrupted.
I have finally become one of the people I used to manage! All my bosses talked of needing to do this many times a day, midway through a task and then the door opens again. Back to your desk and what were you doing before that meeting?
This is why Executive Assistants turn into Nurse Ratchet from Physio. We are trying to allow our bosses a few extra minutes at their desk doing their jobs in between the general chaos involved in managing humans.
I have note books in three places and when I have a thought, I have to quickly jot it down, the short-term memory thing is such a head banger! I think a thought, rush for the pad and then “poof” just like that its GONE.
Soon I won’t be looking for a pad and I imagine that will be such a relief. I am getting so sick of lists, I used to adore lists and Greg and I often agree that all I really want to do is essentially file the entire world. If I was in charge, it would all be in perfect order and probably color coded as well.
I remember clearly my first day in my new contract role. I had a handover with two other contractors and then I had my first sit down meeting with my new Manager, Greg Calkin. His desk was overflowing with paper, discarded pens and general chaos. The first thing that just literally popped out of my mouth was “Oh I would love to file all that for you”. He laughed out loud and with that - two souls found each other. I am eternally thankful that I love filing!
