Sleep

I started feeling ill on Saturday, but it really kicked in properly onSunday. I am now in bed and have a horrible cough. We have done two RATS tests,so I think I just have a cold with a cough. The one silver lining is the sleep.

I suffered from depression earlier in my life and part of the battle scars Iwas left with includes sleep issues. An average night of sleep for me is aroundfive hours which I know is not enough. Yesterday I slept for ten hours, and itwas utter bliss! I find it mind blowing that we don’t know why we sleep.Whatever magic is included in the cauldron that makes up sleep - I celebrateyou!

Sleep gives us perspective - imagine if we all pushed pause on our emailsand texts and then reread them in the morning. After a good night's sleep, theterror of the night before looks very different - the lion has turned into akitten.

Sleep allows some part of our brains to work over a problem. I have woken upon many occasions with the answer to some niggling issue.

Above all sleep allows us to push the reset button. I adored Anne of GreenGables who said, ‘isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with nomistakes in it yet?”

When I was a little girl, I used to say every night “God bless you and havehappy dreams” as part of my good night ritual. How is it that kids can capturein a few words the desires of our hearts?
